Spirit Weavers

In 1988 Ron Walks With Fire, Spirit Dancer and Amy Thor formed Eclectic Earth Coven (EEC) that provided spiritual and magical training as well as performed Wiccan style rituals. As the coven grew over the next four years, members from various spiritual paths joined. This resulted in an expansion of the styles of ritual that EEC performed. These included Native American, Shamanism, Druidic, Celtic, Micronesian and others.

In 1991 When Ron Walks With Fire and Spirit Dancer became more involved with the oldest, legally-recognized, earth-based church in the US, it was decided that the eclectic spiritual and tribal focus would better fit within a wider community rather than a focused Wiccan path. Amy Thor and several members of Eclectic Earth Coven decided to hive from the group. Those remaining elected to update the name to better reflect its new focus and allow the others to keep the EEC name.

Spirit Weavers was selected as the name of the group as it well describes the path of personal spiritual growth. As Spirit Weavers grew and began to move toward affiliating with the larger community it was determined that the best form for the organization of the group would be as an independent church. In 1995 Spirit Weavers Church was incorporated in the State of Ohio.

In February of 1995 Spirit Weavers Church hosted its first regional festival at Turtle Lake Resort. It was called Spirit Gathering and attracted attendees from ten states.

In 1996 Spirit Dancer (one of the founders) resigned from Spirit Weavers Church to pursue other interests. Jim Looman became active and provided infrastructure support for the Church at about the same time. Spirit Weavers Church continued to grow but maintained a local profile until 1998 when its outreach became regional.

By the year 2000 Jim, Candy and Ron comprised the Clergy of Spirit Weavers Church. Spirit Weavers began holding Festivals that drew attendees from a 600-mile radius. In 2001 Spirit Weavers began holding at least two festivals a year including Beltane and Samhain. During 2001 and 2002 the structure and doctrine of Spirit Weavers Church was further defined and its scope became national. Also in 2002 Raven was ordained as a priestess followed by Kevin Bear Island in 2003.

When Jim Looman passed over in the Autumn of 2004, Spirit Weavers solidified its independence from other religious organizations while maintaining support of them in their endeavors.
